New Fall Virtual Workshops

Rosesandmasonjar_smThe kids are back in school – time for some new workshops! So many people have asked me to do a “basics” workshop – here it is! Hope to see you there… All these workshops are virtual, meaning you enjoy them from the privacy of your own PC or Mac, anywhere in the world. No travel expenses, and they are available to you via video to review after the fact.

Oil Painting Basics – Beginner Jump Start…
In this workshop we will go through the entire bag of tricks from what all the materials do, what works best, and how to use them. Whether you’re new to oil painting, or new to ANY kind of painting, this is the workshop that will get you started on a serious painting path.

Virtual Workshops have been AMAZING. We have hit every continent except Australia – any Aussies out there wanting to give it a go? People from all over the world, and close to home, have been extremely responsive. I love getting messages about how painters have always wanted to take a workshop but couldn’t for some reason like caring for a loved one, children at home, or the expense of travel. The virtual workshop remedies all of that.

Summer is here (well, not in Australia) and I hope you’re all caught up on your summer fun and ready to get back to the easel. By request, I have added two new workshops, including ALLA PRIMA METHOD, which is TWO paintings in two days using the quick, expressive alla prima methods I use to make paintings like the one at the top of this email.

Remember you can be anywhere in the world because these workshops take place from the privacy of your own home pc/mac. And if you can’t make the precise start time, the videos are available within 12 hours so you can catch up at your convenience.

Peony and Ewer

Impasto turns out to work a little bit better on oil-primed linen. Email me if you’d like to purchase this.

Peonies in a White Pitcher

pink_white_pitcher_smImpasto paint is a bit of a trick, but very interesting. I’ve been using Gamblin’s Solvent-Free to experiment with building up the lights for drama and atmosphere. It’s like sculpting. Tricky, but rewarding. This alla prima sketch is larger than most, but felt pretty good going down.

The Carnies of Burntown

Before I was a painter, I was a writer. Couldn’t ever quite give it up! Just released the first book in the Carnies of Burntown series, “Billie and the Blood Mirror.” It’s a paranormal romance set in a carnival and the adjoining town, where everybody seems to have a secret talent bubbling just below the surface.

It’s available on Kindle and it’s a fun, fast read. I hope you like it!

Tulip Sketch 04-29

It’s spring! I’m so excited about everything coming up in the garden. The next few months are going to be nuts!

Peony And Portrait Virtual Workshops

The Virtual Workshop in March was a BLAST! Outside of personal coaching, I haven’t seen better work come out of a workshop, ever. It’s so exciting to help people really push their technique to new levels!

There are TWO new Virtual Workshops – one on Peonies (by popular demand!) and one on Portraits. You can do them from anywhere in the world, and the videos remain up for you to review at your leisure. Click here to learn more and sign up.
